Attack of the Burrs!!!
Anyone have any easy tricks to removing burrs easily and quickly? My horses found a patch and played in them  and I had to cut my mini stallion's mane compeletly off!! My Appy gelding's tail is wrapped into a whip shape with burrs but I don't want to cut it off! so any tricks!?

Use A LOT of showsheen (or some other detangling product) and work them out gently with your fingers. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Good luck!!!

I'm battling the burs, too. My husband mowed the pastures a couple of weeks ago, but they're still finding them. I'll have to go search them out and whack them down with my swing blade. I just work them out with a metal curry comb. Takes some patience, but saves their manes/tails.

BABY OIL! I swear by it. My boy got TONS of burrs and I drenched his tail in baby oil and they came right out.

They have to be one of the major banes of the horse pasture. I have battled them for several year. I was out looking for them this weekend and found only one plant http://www.forumsextreme.com/images/sHa_woot.gif
The trick is, pull them up whenever you see them and remove them from the pasture. One little burr can live for many years out on the ground and sprout many more plants when it germinates. Don't drop them back on the ground when you pull them out. Put them in the trash.
As for pulling them, patience and leather gloves.

I use either baby oil, cowboy magic, or mtg. Good luck! (: i've been lucky enough that my horse has avoided the burs. *knock on wood*

WoW! I love you guys!! haha I'm gunna try the baby oil in the morning on Glyder's tail! Cross your fingers for me! I also mad the mistake last year of WEEDWACKING the burrs! Word to the wise NEVER do that hahaha I had burrs in my hair and the burrs came back twice as bad this year! So I'm putting on a baseball cap, gloves and armed with a bag and cutters. Those burrs are going DOWN!!! hahah thanks guys!

sadly i am having the same issue...currently my best friend is show sheen... that and a hairbrush...just take your time an they will come out no problem... I also found that either braiding their tails or soaking them with show sheen helps to prevent the burrs from sticking again...lol
Good luck with you plant assault!
