~ Sore Back -- Please help
I took my horse, Night Heat to a show jumping competition yesterday. It was her very first show. On the ride to the showgrounds, she kept stretching her neck to the ground as if stretching. We thought it was just a cold back from the rain the previous night.
When I was warming her up, she refused to go forward, especially in the muddy areas of the arena. She kept throwing her head up and rushing when I turned her near the exiting gate. I thought she was just being all excited with the environment, because in the showring she kept knocking and refusing.
Later as we were about to head home, we realize that she had small lump in the middle of her back by her spine, and when you push around there, she practically crumples to the ground.
We predict she maybe rolled on a rock or something. Do you have any ideas on how to treat this or speed up recovery?
Have you had her saddle examined by a Professional Saddle Maker? Off of her back, on her back, with you in it?
I would first suspect the saddle.
Definately get an Equine Chiro out to work on her back - absolutely.
She deserves alot of cookies and praise for doing her best for you, while dealing with this back pain. Good for you for noticing though, now you can solve the problem and help her.
I agree, i would defiantly have an equine chiropractor out to see her, and they will be able to give you alot of advice as well.
