Possible free lease opportunity in Calgary, Alberta
I'm biting the bullet on this one.
Horse's name: Denny
Breed: Thoroughbred (off the track since August '08)
Temperment: I'd consider him to be very quiet, considering his breed.
I am out of commission for riding for anywhere from 2 months to 1 1/2 years or more, depending on my injury and the treatment plan. I am planning on lunging him and doing flatwork, but he has a lot of under saddle potential and I hate for it to go to waste for what sounds like is going to be a long time.
Denny is a fairly simple ride. I really haven't done all that much with him in the past year that I've owned him - he was injured (which has since healed, and is 100% sound on) and that took a long time to heal, and almost immediately following his recovery, I ended up getting hurt. His w/t/c is very solid. Understands basic leg yields, and I was really working on getting him to work back to front and carry himself in a frame.
He is very hunter typey. I can see him doing very well at shows under saddle.
I am looking for a very proficient rider to take the reins a couple times a week. I board Denny at a nice facility that has heated barns, a heated indoor arena, heated indoor round pen, etc etc... very nice facility.
Please PM me here if you are interested.
A friend's first ride on Denny:
Awww Denny! Can I steal him?
Re: Horse Lease
My name is Natalie, and I currently stay at home with my young son. I know I am not exactly what you are looking for, as I wouldn't say I am a proficient rider...more intermediate. I have ridden several horses before, but all were trail horses and had a very easy disposition. I am just looking at being around horses and doing some simple riding, I would love to have the opportunity to own one someday but it isn't feasible financially right now. I am excellent with animals and have always had a good report with horses. If you need someone to exercise Denny I could definitely do that, as long as he is a pretty stable horse. I have no problem putting in the time needed for him to trust me before mounting him or if you have any other specific request.
Anyway, let me know what you think and I hope we could work something out.
Wow.. I hope you recover quickly! I know that must be difficult.
Denny is a very stable horse, but he is still fairly green (inexperienced.) He's very calm in most situations, but can definitely draw on a person's mood and confidence. He ground ties for the most part to be tacked and untacked, and is a real gem.
Ideally, the rider would have enough knowledge to pick up where I left off. This horse tries his heart out, but needs direction. I would really like to see him showing next summer, either under me or someone else (or both, if it worked out that way) so to get to that point, the rider needs to be fairly competent.
If you think you would be up for that, please let me know.
Allie (& Denny)
He loves people and needs to be worked, for his own sake. He'd be the same horse under saddle if I jumped on him tomorrow or 6 months from now, he's very levelheaded but... I left him alone for a week and a half and the poor bugger was SO happy to see me after that break..
Of course! I feel bad that I let my gelding sit so much when I got busy with school, and I left him a year at home with next to no attention because he doesn't get along with my mom. It's hard when life makes you put attention on yourself and you know that your guy needs attention and love. Hopefully you will have a great person lease him and your recovery will be perfect and speedy. At least you still get to see him though, Bali will be here tomorrow after a year of seeing home only when I went back home :(
Having someone else ride him can help him grow a lot, too!
Anyways, thinking good thoughts!! :)
OMG... He is absolutely gorgeous. Can't we ship him to PA? I'll take good care of him!! ;)
I need my regular "equi-therapy!"
Aw. You're a saint - doing what's best for him even though I bet it breaks your heart.
Denny's such a gorgeous boy, and I'm sure he'll thank you for the sacrifice you're making.
I hope you heal both well and quickly.
Best of luck finding the right rider. If I rode English and lived in Alberta, I'd be all over this deal - what a great horse.
