Yay! So I went out to look at some horses at this guy's place last Sat. and just haven't gotten around to posting anything about it. The first thing I did was ride this horse that'd he had and wanted to sell to me. WOW. I was in love! This guy was small, maybe 14.1, but he had a lot of heart. And go. Haha. His stops weren't too great, but I'm sure in time they could improve. He'd been turned out for a long time because the owner was pretty much one of those people who just want to be able to say they have horses. All of his were in training, but when the money ran out, the horses went back to him and they became pasture pets I guess. GRR, that just pisses me off. But anyway, he wants to sell them all now, and he sent this horse out to the original trainer for a tune up and to advertise. So the trainer thinks of me because I've bought a few from him, and calls me up. Anyway, his spins are amazing! I really liked him except for one thing. He'd been a stud up until 10 days ago. Not that he acted like a stud. No, he acted like a 25 year old gelding! But I saw him out with the other horses and that's where the stud behavior comes out. So my choice, if I got him, would be to keep him penned up or risk hurting the other horses. Since I don't have anywhere to pen him, and it's not worth hurting one of the others, I sadly had to say no. Darn. I really did like him, and for $3000! I almost did it. I'm still talking myself out of it. Oh well. There will be others.
And then, he's got this yearling filly that he just wants to GIVE me. Because the baby that I got from hiom last year colicked, and he's just a nice guy like that. I'm like, that's super nice, but... I can't just take a horse from you! This is your business! Lol. But he showed her to me anyway, and she was alright, but thin, and potbellied, though that could just be from worms or just that stage in life. But she's cowhocked in back and her pasterns are long in the front and overall I just didn't like her. So after I talked myself out of that situation (which required some fast talking, you can be sure!), I decided, Hell, why not look at the babies? I'm digging myself a grave here anyway.
So, I headed over to the mares and foals. The first one that comes up to me is his brothers, and a full sister to the one of mine that colicked. I didn't really see a huge resemblance, and it's probably a good thing, because I almost cried just seeing the mother, and if the colt had looked like Flair, the poor guy would have been shocked at my tears LOL. But... I wanted a filly. And, as usual (weirdly, he always ends up with 2 colts and only one filly...) there was only one. I looked her over, and of course, she's the littlest one. But that's not always bad. She has pretty solid confo, and she was friendly. Considering she hasn't been touched, and she let me pet her, that's a huge testament to her disposition. Anyway, then this big palomino colt runs up and pegs her in the side, and I'm like... AWW! So I shoo him away and then she just stands there and lets me pet her and I'm in love. She's gorgeous. She's red roan and has 4 white feet, which is a down side for showing since I HATE cleaning them, lol, but they were immaculate, which is wierd considering we've had 2 feet of snow that just melted off and Her pasture was pretty muddy. It gave me hope, haha.
Soooo. I told him I'd consider my choices, and drove away, even though I'd already made up my mind. He's a sharp guy, lol. Yesterday he calls me up and asks me if I want him to start feeding her anything in particular before she leaves home. He's going to wean her these next two weeks, and then she's mine! That was so funny though, that he knows me well enough to see that I wanted her. I love da weanlings. They're just so EASY! and I've always gotten this connection with them that I have a hard time finding anywhere else. But anyway, sorry for the book....
I'M GETTING A BABY!!!!!!!!!!!! yayyyyyyyyyyyy!
Yay!! Congrats!! I know you have been looking for another ever since your other one died. I demand pix as soon as you get her home. :D
Lucky lady! Congrats on getting a youngster! Sorry about your other young one that didn't make it. Have lots of fun with this one!
Having just got Lyric a few weeks ago, I know how excited you are!!! Congrats!!! I can't wait to see pictures!
Thanks guys! I'm so excited!!!!! LOL Smrobs, trust me. There will be pics. There will be so many pics you will be begging for no more pics. haha.
G2G -- ohmigosh! I really can't wait. lol.
PD -- Haha, yeah! I saw the pics of yours and they are supercute! Makes me wish for mine all that much more lol.
I think... I'm gonna name her Cinna. Like Cinnamon only not. LOL. What do you think?
OH how exciting. What are her bloodlines? She sounds like she will be as gentle as can be!
Her sire is a son of NU Cash, and his dam is a Peppy San daughter.... I don't have the papers yet so I'm not entirely sure of his dam's name, but the sire's name is NU Moon Pep.
Her dam is a Smart Chic Olena daughter, and I *think* her topside is Peppy San too. Lol, it was either Peppy San or Boomernic. I can't remember. =)
Yeah, the one I had before her was just like a dog, seriously. Never made a wrong move and got everything the first time. I trusted her to behave more than I trusted my older horses haha.
OH! and I was wanting to tell you, I saw your avvie on another thread, and your horse looks just like my 3 year old! Well, not just like her, because mine's a deep red sorrel, but the star is EXACTLY the same, and so is the expression. Those ears, LOL! The resemblance is uncanny. What's the bloodlines there? =)
