Weird rash / Swollen face?
Question 1: After I rode my mare today, I took her saddle off and noticed that she had a rash on her sides. There were two lumps about the size of a spoon (minus the handle) in the exact same place on each side of her barrel. There was also a bunch of tiny bumps along where the front of the pad goes on both sides, AND along her neck. It can't be related to the saddle or pad because obviously they weren't on her neck. She has worn the pad and saddle three times before with no problems. I'm guessing the pad just irritated the skin underneath it more and didn't actually cause the rash. Does anyone know what it could be from?

Question 2: She also has some swelling in her face. A couple weeks ago her cheeks swelled up, and they've been getting better and worse since then. When it first started, it was her whole cheek that was swollen. Now it's just the part near her throat, and it's shaped like a half moon. The right cheek is more swollen than the left. There are two lumps on either side of the bone that runs down the middle of her face. There is also a lump under her jaw. The lumps I just mentioned appeared about a week ago.

I drew a picture so you guys would have a better idea of what I'm talking about:

It looks pretty much the same on both sides.

She has no fever, no runny nose, her eyes look fine, her appetite is fine, and there is no heat in any of the swollen places. I haven't changed her feed, haven't put her in a different pasture, she hasn't been around any strange horses, and she has been vaccinated for strangles.

The vet is coming out to look at her tomorrow at 2pm - I just wanted to see if anybody had any ideas before he came out. I will update you guys tomorrow after he comes out.

It could be strangles. You can get that even with the vaccine but it is probably something else... it could be an allergy

I would guess allergies as well. I'd suggest Benadryl but you should probably make sure the vet sees what she has, and if she gets Benadryl and doesn't have a rash for him to see.....

This happened to my friend's horse, she broke out EVERYWHERE in hives, and only during the day. She would get better at night and get them again the next day. She ended up getting an antihistamine that looked like corn meal, and she was able to wean her horse off it and she's fine now.

If your able to, you can give her a bath after the vet is out, and I probably would stop using the saddle pad for now. You don't have to all of a sudden get rashes, they can develop over a period of time. I'm allergic to laundry detergent, and I was using some for about a month before I started reacting to it.
