I have a registered 15.2 hh black pinto mare, she is mostly black with a snip, four white socks, and a splash of white on her right shoulder. This mare has nice comformation and a stellar personality and I would like to breed her in a year. She has produced one colt, two years ago, (before I owned her)that was chestnut with smaller spotting from a Chestnut Pinto stallion. Does anyone know or understand the inheritance of color and pattern in this breed?
I would like to produce a foal that is taller, moms personality, has white on the face, nice even patches of color on the body. I would love chestnut coloration but, any color would be fine!
As for color, try the color calulator at Color Calculator
The more you know about her lines, the closer you can get, but you can play around and see the probabilities.
Can you post photos of her? There are several different pinto patterns and they do not all inherit the same way. If we can tell what pattern she is, it will help with predictions. Also do you know what color/pattern her parents were?
