Do you do your own vaccinations?
I do :D I was honestly surprised as to how mellow my horses where about it too. No fuss or anything, just a little "Hey, whatacha doin'?" at the first prick and otherwise quiet as can be.
I expected my three year old to give me a little hell at the least. You should see how he reacts to fly spray, lord forbid.

yep, i do my own vaccinations, except for rabies. Its cheaper that way too!

I did for the first time a month ago, and it didn't go very well. I will try again next go-round though, and hopefully I will handle it better, lol.

Yes I do my own for the most part but I think that I am going to let my vet take care of it.

Ugh. I'm in the process of training my 5mo old colt to stand for vaccinations. Not easy, but he'll get it. At least I don't have to pay the vet extra for a fractious horse:)

Yes, I'd be lucky to get a vet out here for an emergency, let alone something as routine as vaccinations. I prefer doing them anyway since it saves money.

First time was a little challenging - I'm a nurse and used to giving shots to people - horse skin is a lot tougher so it took a few tries. Fortunately, the horses barely noticed what I was doing.

I was going to have a vet do my rabies vaccination until I found it at the local farm store.
I've done Rabies and Tetanus, spaced by a few days thus far. I try not to do all my shots to close together.

Everyones getting West Nile and Encephalomyelitis in the next week or two.

Next spring it's Rhino, Strangles, and Potomac Horse
Fever in addition to Encephalomyelitis Rabies, and Tetanus.

i do but my mare is a lil bit touchy with needles so i have to tie her back leg so she wont kick the s**t outta me.otherwise my other horses do fine with it.

SuperStarsSugar 11-22-2009 02:06 PM

For the most part I do mine, but if the vet is out anyway (not often) I usually just have them do it.
