New round pen! What do you think?
Well, after almost 2 years after having the horse at home, we finally put up a round pen.

There was a garage behind the area where we wanted to put it. The garage was falling down but we didn't get around to taking it down. That finally happened a couple weekends ago. So this weekend, we had enough of a dry spell to get out and dig holes, put the posts up and finish it.

It isn't anything spectacular but I think it will be functional. We can connect it to the electric fence we already have up without much difficulty. If we had to keep a horse isolated, such as a new horse or injured, it could be used for that too.

So without further ado:

The electric rope is spaced at 1 1/2', 3', and 4 1/2'. The posts are spaced at 10' and the diameter is 50'. I think we spent about $200 total for supplies.

Would you use something like this? Or would you feel that it is unsafe?

I think it would be good for what you have right now. I don't know how much training you do, or if you go after raucous greenies, but my concern would be one trying to slip through the fencing or jump over it to evade work.

It depends on what you use it for. If you're going to mainly use it as a quarantine pen or something it would be fine.

I wouldn't feel comfortable working anything green or that has problems in it though. It also looks a bit small?
