Does anyone know what kind of hay this is?

A friend of mine seemed very happy with it, said it was soft and lasted her horses longer so I tried two bales for fun, not planning on switching over as I love my hay... anyways tried and all 11 of my horses declined this. Literally, one of my mares was picking some muddy pee'd on left over round bale mess over a few flakes of this hay. I have never seen a hay they all together wont touch. Another couple of mares walked over, smelled it, pushed it around and waddled back over to the fence by the house to yell at me and make sure I got them "there hay" they wouldn't even try it. Its still in there, un-touched, three days later (I'm feeding them our hay now but its funny they wont even snack on this stuff) In fact they've gone as far as to not eat my hay if its sitting on or two near this hay? I guess it would last me a really long time to... Mine wouldn't even touch it

Here is a handful of our hay on the left and a handful of this other hay on the right.

I tried to get two close ups of just the other hay, the camera kept blurring so this is the best I could do.

I'd be quite interested to know if anyone knows what it is? Its very soft and wispy.

I was thinking maybe orchard, its usually soft and darker then timothy.

Its softer, but lighter. Its a sage green color. In the photos of the two compared side by side they are similar sized handfuls but the one on the right you can see the ground threw. Its un-usually wispy IMO and there isn't much for stalks, its all that fluffy stuff like the last photo shows.

I keep looking up hay types and can't find anything that reminds me of it. The way the horses acted with it they already put there vote in as "weeds" lol.

Doesn't look like any hay I've ever seen. Looks like seeded grass.

umm im not sure what kind of hay it is, but i dont blame your horses for not wanting to eat it. It looks like weads wiht a little bit of grass or soemthing, just does not look nummy (if i were a horse lol)

Doesnt really look like anything in particular. Over here you can get "grass hay" sometimes which is just cut from regular pastures, maybe thats it?

Wouldn't the people you bought the hay from be able to tell you what type it is supposed to be?

looks like meadow hay to me

My friend gave me to bales to try, she thinks its great but has no clue what it is either.

I will agree, I think its weeds with a little un-planed grass in there.

Take your lead from your horses, if they don't want it, don't give it to them.
