free jumping/lounging help
how do people get there horses to free jump. i see people online all the time with there horses free jumping and it seems really fun to do but i have a small arena, a lot bigger than a roundpen so i dont think that i can teach my mare to do it. she loves to jump but everytime i try to free lounge her or something sh goes to the other side of the arena.nd she never stays at the edge or the fence.ow do you get them to free lounge in a space that big? my arena is big enough to do barrels in.
For free lounging you just set the horse free witha halter or not in the enclosed arean and direct them witch way to go, if your horse knows verbal commands then by saying walk...trot...canter your horse should do so, you you want them to change direction simply get infront of their shoulder line and point the other direction while calmly lifting the lounge whip.
To free jump you must makea shoot, this is made of pole so the the horse cant just aviod the jump by its self, tho it sounds like ur horse wouldnt care! Then you set the jump, start low cause some horses find ita little scary to go thru loes and then over a pole. But some are like WHATEVER! WHOO. Make sure you set a ground line pole to help the horse with jumping the distance, and really you should start slow.
Have fun and good luck!
This is what I did. I started with a lunge line. I took two plastic barrels and put a space between them so she could walk through. Then every time I got her walk both ways through the space I pushed the barrels closer together. Then when they were closed I asked her to go over them.
I'd like to note that I've been working her with Clinton Anderson techniques so that I can drive her forward, backward and both directions by how I hold the whip and the cues I use. When she tried to go around the barrels instead of over I made sure I was in the right spot beside her and if she tried to come in I tapped her with the whip to keep going straight.
I saw that video I need to try that.
i did it the same way to teach her to jump. i seen clinton anderson do it and it only took me about 15 minutes before she was jumping well. she can lounge incredibly but as soon as the lounge line goes off she wont listen to me.
