Should I Be Concerned?

This used to be a crack just below the cornet band. I noticed today it was kinda soft and squishy. No puss, no heat, no bad odor. Should I be concerned?

It looks like from an abscess that blew out, and is growing out now. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. So you're saying I shouldn't be concerned?

I wouldn't be, is there any lameness present or anything like that?

Looks like a blown-out abscess to me too. As long and the horse is sound I wouldn't worry too much about it. But if it is soft and squishy, it could still be draining?

That hole will slowly travel all the way down the hoof until your farrier trims it out. So expect to see it for a while! But if the horse is sound I wouldn't worry about it.

If you think it is draining puss you can soak it in epsom salts. Otherwise, it's just a blemish.

Yes, that's the way DJ's started. It looked like maybe he had bumped up against something and cut it.

Thanks for the input. No puss, no lameness, nothing to indicate to me something is wrong. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
