My Boy Festus
For anyone who has never lost a horse/friend/partner... it is the hardest thing you will ever have to go through. It is the same to me as losing a family member or loved one. My gelding Festus was trajically taken from me almost a month ago now and i still have not come to terms with it. Someone i believed to be a dear friend to me and was supposed to be taking care of him for the winter while i am in a different province ar school, decided she could no longer make that commitment and took him to a sale where he was sold for meat... all behind my back. I called when i heard to try to buy him back and i didnt care the price. I was most definately too late. It breaks my heart and i will never forget Festus. He was one of a kind. The kind of horse you will only own one of in a lifetime. He was perfect. From his gentle and kind personality to his big donkey face haha he was my gorgeous boy. i will miss going out to see him and him putting the whole weight of his head against my chest and snuggling in there for as long as i would let him. He had so much life left and the guilt i have will stay with me through the rest of mine.
R.I.P. Festus.. You were my boy, i love and miss you.
"Next to every mans footprint, there is a hoof print."
:cry:I am so very sorry! You loved him and had no idea what was going on so don't beat yourself up....it isn't you that should be carrying the guilt!
I know your heart is breaking. Sending hugs and hopes that sunshine will outshine the clouds!
Thanks.. i know in my heart that it is not my fault but i still feel the guilt..
thinking of you girl.................
That just breaks my heart, and makes me so mad at the same time. I cant imagine what you are feeling. I have lost horses too, the greiving period will be what it will be, one of mine was one of those rare once in a lifetime horses, I dont think Ill ever recover though Im trying. Hang in there, give yourself plenty of time, and dont be too hard on yourself as Im sure if you knew what was going on you would have done everthing possible for him, just like you did as soon as you did find out. Be careful to get another horse only when you are ready , I am so sorry not only for your loss but also how it happened, it never should have.
nearly cryed when i read that ;(, thinking of you and him. But really that is the worst way to loose a horse, i cant believe a 'friend' could do that the you. He is running free now in horsey heaven and they can never touch him x
