Advice for an Over-analyzer?
Hi guys! Am I the only one on here that's a huge over analyzer?
My trainer was talking to my sister and said she could even notice me analyzing the thing she told me to do in a lesson. I'm not aware of that in particular, but I do know that before I do ANYTHING I have to plan out what I'm going to do, even what I'm going to say! It is kind of exhausting when you think about it.
Oh, and if something is bothering me, I keep on thinking on and on about it, trying to search for something that will make me feel better about it.
This next thing isn't really bad, but I guess I'm competitive with myself instead of other people, in other words I'm my own enemy...:-| LOL!
So like, going to a jump, instead of just riding through it, I'm going over how I should look before, during, and after the jump AND what my horse should look like!
At this point, you guys probably think I should be seeing a therapist or something, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one out there:lol:
Do you guys have any advice on how to shut off my brain and go with the flow?

The other day she was discussing her over analyzing to me. Finally she turned to and said "What do you she (my trainer) meant about thinking too much?" I replied "It means you think too much, stop over thinking your over thinking!"
She said it helps for her to breathe deeply and focus on ONE big thing at a time, such as counting strides (1,2,1,2, 1, 2, 3, jump!) or heels rather then trying to think of everything t once
Yeah, basically my whole family is like this :shock: LOL!
I am the worlds worst!!! :) My step-dad reminds me all the time to "quit thinking and ride" It is always so funny. I do the best when I just try to think about anything else. He has to remind me that hte horses know if I start thinking too much and manage to get nervous. :)
I wish I new how to shut off my brain sometimes. I can totally relate to the going over something over and over if it is bothering you.
Sometimes I try to just focus on my breathing to distract my head and calm myself down. If I can focus on the in and out, I can sometimes banish all the extra thoughts/worries/ideas for a little while.
I almost always have to focus on breathing, singing to myself, humming, or talking to someone else. :)
Yeah, it's so exhausting! I think what I'll do is everytime I start thinking, I'll pinch myself and give myself a firm NO! Now wouldn't that be a sight to see in public...

You're not alone! I'm ALWAYS overanalysing every little thing I did or didn't do right in a lesson. It drives my instructor INSANE! LOL
She tells me to stop worrying and just go with it.
oh i am the same way !
I find myself OVER thinking about alot of thing's, such as running a converstation or a day in my mind over and over again, or consistantly thinking about something continuously.
Just silly little things, i wish my mind would just .... have a malfunction and shut off lol !
