Standing square/ setting up :)
Well I have two young boys that I want to start showing next year.(Will be my first ever show year) I want to spend this winter teaching them to stand square/setting up for halter. I have never done the showing thing before so this is all new to me. How do I teach them to stand square/set up. I have been working with my 2 1/2 year old the last few day. The problem I am haveing is that I have also been working with yeilding the hind quarters. So when I go to set him up I say whoa and as soon as I tap one of his back feet he moves his whole butt away from me. Now he knows the word whoa and will stand there and let you go all around him without moving. And then when we just about get there, where I have his back legs set and I try to get one of his front feet to move he moves his back leg almost every time with the front one he is moving. Grrrr.... I know its going to take some time but any tips are welcomed!!! :D Thanks a bunch!!

I find backing my colt works. When his feet are then in the right posotion I say stand up he is no learning what stand and stand up mean. You might want to watch a video as well. Or work with a horse that can already do it. You will then get a feel for it.
