sleazy sleepwear, jammies, stretch question
So I am thinking about buying a full hood/shoulder guard for my horse. I have to retrain her mane and the rhino high neck blanket I have seems to be rubbing off a section of her mane. My question is: How often can you leave these things on?
You could look for one of those that doesn't have the head part, just the neck part. That would probably be fine to leave on all the time but if it has the head part only at night. If you get on make sure it has large eye holes and little ear holes. That makes all the difference with it slipping and getting into their eyes.
so what are the full hoods good for? just stabling? my mare gets her blanket changed often throughout the day, depending on the temperature. I just want to make sure there are no negatives to leaving the slinky on during these cold months. i'm a bit worried about turning her out with the hood, i don't want one of her pasture mates to bit and pull it over her eyes. would you recommend a should guard instead?
I used to use sleazies and whatnot, but they shift so much and honestly? I really think the horses find them uncomfortable. We use mesh mane tamers, and I've never had to 'fix' a mane after the fact. Don't know if it'd work for what you want it for though.
All my horses have several sets from shoulder and head to just shoulder to full body sleazy with out the head part. Just from the shoulders all the way back. I leave them on as long as they have their blankets on. They get washed every few days and a clean one put on. Just like anything if they are dirty it will irritate them.
Since I don't use them I'll leave how long to leave it on to the people who do use them, but I'd just like to toss in a warning. These things are known to thin your horse's mane out, especially when used over a long period of time. The horses I've known who wore them regularly always had beautiful coats and tidy manes, but thin! And really not that good-looking..I believe it has something to do with the lack of oxygen. Just something to think about.
