Seriously... .. . *Rant*
Some people are eaither thick or stupid, although there is the occasional kid who is forced into it by parents, coaches, ect. I hate it when you see a tiny kid, on a huge horse, jumping giant jumps. But this product has taken it to far. Velcoing your child or yourself, studant to the saddle. Nice work. Sure I've always had a joke about it but some people seriously do it. What happens if the horse falls? Hate to break it to you, but your screwed.
At leasts it beats tying a tiny kid to a saddle and watching their pony fly around barrels because it looks cute, as soon as the kids are old enough I bet they stand up and say no.
Sorry to rant its been a long day and this just set me off. Whats your opinion on it?
If they are that stupid then they almost deserve to have something happen...
Apart from the poor little kids that a froced, the parents need to suffer. But the kids sure don't.
thats insane !
One of my friends does that with her kids and there horses/ponies(depends who they ride that particular day). They only do it when they are running barrels and poles. The kids were born on horses. (actually, the lady's water broke on a trail ride...thankfully they hadn't gone far.) But, I still think the kids need to learn to ride properly first...on a correctly sized animal.
When I showed on the western circuit (on a borrowed palomino QH mare who was foundation bred), I saw a lot of little kids strapped to their big horses. I was on a horse that was too big for me, too. But, she was very gentle (I was 6) and reliable. I admit, I did have to put blocks in my stirrups to reach them though :D
All these kids, terrified in a PLEASURE CLASS, strapped to these horses, and who wins? ME. The one who isn't strapped to the horse. Mostly thanks to Fancy :D
I could never do that. It's like when I see people carrying a baby on a half wild horse on a trail. I watched a horse rearing up with a baby on it one day (like 5 month old baby). My little brother started on a pony that ended up not working out. Unless you rode him for at least 2 hours a day he was a bucker. :( He is now on a TB, but its a solid horse that has noo problem with getting next to anything to be mounted. He handles the horse by himself almost completely. If I didn't think a child could stay on without something like that I would not want to have the child doing it at all.
My friends and I were riding fast at 7 and 8, but we knew how to stay on. When I fell off I asked for pointers on how not to do it next time. The only time I could see using that velcro is with therapeutic riding because those horses are solid, have multiple people watching them, and are controlled.
That seems kind of dangerous to me. I don't think people should be velcroed to a horse, I think it is asking for problems.
There is a dressage trainer in my area that also straps her students into the saddle to teach them to sit trot better.
I think it's hilarious how stupid people are.
The only use I can see with this is for a therapeutic riding program with children who cannot hold themselves in very well, and with sidewalkers on either side in case of an emergency.
