Can anyone reccomend a good tack cleaner?
The tack cleaner ive used for as long as i can remember has suddenley gone up in price and i cant afford to keep on buying it
Ive tried many other ones but they dont clean very well
I need a good tack cleaner quick as i have got a show coming up in the next two weeks and need to clean my showing tack
I use Lexol cleaner and really like it. I also like a good old fashioned glycerine bar or liquid or gel Murphy's Oil Soap. Castile Soap (in the laundry isle or "organic" isle) also works well and is a mild cleaner. Using plenty of water is key to lifting out dirt and getting leather really clean. I use an old soft bristled tool brush to get in to cracks and around/under hardware.
After cleaning, follow up with a good conditioner. For light conditioning, between heavy conditionings, I like Belvoir spray Conditioner (do not like their cleaner, it has alcohol in it!) or Hydrophane conditioner. For deep conditioning, I like Passier Lederbalsam or Bienenwaches Leather Balsam.
If you keep up on cleaning your tack, wiping it down after each ride with a damp cloth, cleaning before a show won't be such a chore.
I use Stuebben Hammanol for conditioning. Its a little pricy, but it only takes a tiny amt each use and lasts forever and works really well.
Stubben Hammanol - Dover Saddlery.
I also have the Stubben cleaner and it works and lasts a long time too.
Thanks and i do uselley wipe it down after each ride ive got different ones for shows tho LOL
It's what I use, and it's what my coach uses. I use it almost every day and my leather in great condition.
Ive just brought some of that and its really good thanks
Horseman's One is a nice one. It is a cleaner and conditioner in one. Fairly cheap too.
In summer, when I'm doing the most riding of the year, I'll do an in-depth dissassembly and cleaning every 2 weeks or so, and wipe my tack down after each ride with leather cleaner/conditioner wipes. I get the wipes at Wal-Mart, from the car aisle. You just have to be careful to get stuff that's meant for real leather seats, not "pleather."
