Conformation Critique Of My Gelding?
Well, I was curious to see what you all thought of my little horse, Jag. He's a 15.1hh breeding stock paint gelding, eight years old primarily used for leasure trail riding but bred for western pleasure. He has more than a few ucky conformational no-no's, but for the job that I ask of him, he performs admirably!
What I see when I judge him is the first few things that jump out is; long back that is prone to weakness in the loins, highlighted by a short, angled croup. He's "under" himself with his front legs as well as post legged in the hind. Generally speaking steep shoulders and down-hill. (Please note that the image itself is slightly skewed not in Jag's favor. He is down-hill, but not that much!)
Some of the positives would be I love his neck, shoulder attachment. The top image doesn't show it off very well, but it is lovely and balanced for his breed. He has substantial, clean legs with low set hocks and generally good pasturn angle, maybe a bit steep in the front. I think he has an attactive head for a gelding, with bright, high-set eyes and a good heart girth.
My overall impression is a nice little horse who won't ever excel in any physically demanding aspects, but not built in a way where his conformation will detrimentally affect him.
We train low level dressage to help stregthen his topline and long abdomen so he is comfortable carrying a rider. Though, he's been on vacation for the past five months while I'm off at school - and will unfortunately still be on vacation until next fall most likely as I'm probably going to accept an internship in FL - so, he's definetly lacking in the muscle tone department! But, since he's coming down with me next year - he better be prepared to get back in shape!
So - that's my thoughts, what about yours! Please let me know anything that you agree, or disagree with or what else you might see! Thanks!

Here's a demonstration of his various trots! (Just for fun, nothing seriously meant! Haha)
Jag's working dressage trot - Ooh-la-la!
His lovely western pleasure jog... Dum-di-dum-di-dum!
And his hunter trot, please excuses his abnormally large looking head! He's chewing so his jaw is open making his head look huge and his neck tiny! Haha!
Lastly, just found - a generally OK image of his leg conformation. Not ideal, but he's square! Haha!
I think he's gorgeous, but you're right about the legs. He looks a bit cow-hocked in the last one, but everything else about him looks wonderful. (:
He looks great.
I think he looks great from what I can see. Very pretty!
Thank you all - I'm really flattered that people seem to like my boy! :)
EventingisLovee, he is cowhocked as well as base narrow. But, what can you do about I always say! Haha!
Yeah, as long as he does his job well, a conformation error is not able to be fixed!
