Aussie saddle for a gaited horse

i have had my horse now for 2 months and still dont have a saddle. he will be ridable come 2 months from now(injury). i have been on the fence about what kind of saddle to get for us. i really like the security or an aussie and the fact that is has english leathers. ive thought about trooper saddles, but after reading a lot of reviews i think it would sit to high on him ans him being 17HH already i dont want to be much higher. i like the feel of english but this being my first horse i am a little afraid of not feeling secure. and western saddles KILL my knees due to the thick fenders. SO im back to an aussie. i dont want to afford a $2000 saddle and would like to keep it under $500.
But i guess my real question is have any of you rode in an aussie on a gaited horse, does it restrict the movement? and his previous trainer said he was eay to fit and took regular QH bars, with the last year off it looks like he has lost a bit of muscle and now has high withers. i dont want to buy more than one saddle, so should i, after hes well ride him bareback to build up his muscle before i look into buying him a saddle.
most people that have rode in an aussie do you like them? no tack shop sells them around here so i cant just try one out, and i dont know any one that has one to lend me for a ride or two :(
im thinking i will have to buy new so i can send a whither tracing in.

I used an aussie saddle once and felt like I was way too high on the horse so I don't think you would like it.

I just bought an Aussie Saddle and have rode in it once. I loved it! I don't have a gated horse though.

I have rode in many Aussie saddles, and I like them. I won't say I love them, because I prefer a nice western saddle for pleasure riding but Aussie saddles are still pretty nice. The thing to remember is although the deeper seat and poleys (those are the thigh block things) are there, you shouldn't rely on them. I'm not sure how it would go on a gaited horse though. I've never had experiences with gaited horses, because they aren't very common in Australia.

I'm assuming this is the kind of Aussie saddle you want!
If you do buy a stock saddle, please don't buy one with a horn. I see so many people buy ones with horns, and I just want to say to them thats not an Aussie saddle!

I know this is off topic, but I think its horrible that the first image that comes up on Google for an Australian Stock Saddle is this.

I'm sure that there are quite a few people on here, who can give you more indepth information. Remember no matter what saddle you buy, make sure it fits you and your horse correctly.

I have an aussie saddle for sale...

I really like it and how secure it made me feel, however the seat was too small and riding a trotting horse with a very bumpy trot (which meant I had to post) was very uncomfortable for me. However on a gait horse I think you would like it.

I just put it on the gaited horse out at the barn to lunge her a bit and she giated just fine.

Did you every find a saddle? I was wondering what you ended up with and how it is working for you?

I love my aussie saddle. One day I will be able to afford a real one, mine only cost me $200 off craigslist but it is soooo comfy. I had the sore knee thing too from the western saddles but not in my aussie, I can ride all day.
