Leg Throwing
My new mare throws her leg out just a tad bit to be noticeable. My friend says this is a sign of poor breeding or conformation. I don't want this to be a problem in her showing. Is there anything that can help this even the littlest bit?

pictures would definitely be helpful.

It sounds like a conformation problem. But that dos not mean that you have a bad horse. But you can keep them comfortable when trimmed or shod correctly. Hard to tell without pictures can you get a picture from the front your horse standing?

she only does this while trotting so it'd be hard to get a picture I do have a video though

She looks like she paddles a little on her front left. But no horse is perfect.

I wouldn't worry about her conformation so much as just getting to know her, learning how to ride her well, and just enjoying the relationship. She looks like she has a bit of "go" and you guys will have lots of opportunity to learn and get to know each other and become more like a partnership. You guys aren't quite in harmony yet, but that takes time. Believe me, I've been there!

Showing is a good goal for the future, but don't overlooks the simple pleasures of riding just for fun. :D

could you get a vid of her on the lunge. It is hard to tell because she's not really trotting properly with you on her. It almost looks like a pain issue but would be much easier to tell if we could see several minutes of sustained speed at the trot. Ideally, a video of her trotting straight at the camera, straight away and then circling to both sides.

Has she had a pre-purchase exam? Video of her on the lunge would be helpful.

I would say that she is certainly paddling with her left front but the underlying cause of the problem could be a pain/lameness issue or conformation. It is really hard to tell because her body is kinda all over the place in the video. I agree, a video of her lunging and pix of her legs from the front and back would definitely help.

I can try to get some when I get her home (Friday)

excellent point- are you bringing her home friday for a trial or for keeps? I know you want to show her and if this ends up being a conformation thing that will hinder her I hope that it is not a done deal yet!
