I do believe its normal for that color to have lighter manes/tails. I imagine you are referring to the flaxen color mane/tail? or just lighter shades of brown/red? Theres is such an array of shades in the sorrels and chestnuts so I think the tails go along with that as well.

Mine has a near black tail (really dark brown/red) but his mane is the same colour as his body :D
The chestnut I had did not have a matching mane & tail. The mane looked bleached out while the tail tended to be darker. The shade of her coat also changed season to season. She would range from a dark liver chestnut to a bright red color w/ a flaxen mane.

My boy is the same way. He is a chestnut, with the same color mane as his body, but his tail is very red with some brown in it. I sense no abnormality lol

All of my sorrels have darker tails than their mane or body. And nope, the same color all the time. Tho in the winter their coat is duller and not as bright.
