I am looking to get another one and I was wondering what is the "one" in the show ring these day?

Thanks!

On the rated circuit the Charles Owen is King in the Hunter and Eq Rings. GPA's were super popular and you see a ton of the Speed Airs in the Jumper ring. You still see plenty GPA's in the H/Eq rings but I feel like for every 1 GPA I see there are 5 COs.

I have a CO AYR8 which is awesome for our Valley 110+ degree summer weather. It was expensive but saving for it and getting it was one of the smarter purchases I made last year. Custom Charles Owen AYR8 Helmet from SmartPak Equine

At a cheaper price point but still very very nice looking is the IRH copy cat of the CO GR8 - IRH XR9 Helmet from SmartPak Equine

Black stripe makes it more versatile and classic looking.

But in all seriousness and fashion aside buy what fits your head. CO's are more oval but a bit moldable as shown to me from a CO dealer, and the GPAs fit a more round head. Unsure of the IRH I've never owned one.

The IRH is a little tight on my head - but not bad ... I have a round head so maybe I need to go try some helmets on at Western Saddlery or Christiansen's.

I wanted a GPA but is they are phasing out id rather not spend that much.

Thanks! :D

GPA's will never fully phase out, just buy what fits, and what looks best with you and your horse, looking good is ALWAYS fashionable.

I do not recommend Western or Christensen's their selection wasn't very good and I had to go all the way to Loomis, CA to buy a CO.

I would call Carousel Saddlery in Woodside, or Shaw's Saddlery in Cupertino to see if they have the helmets you are looking for in stock. Also Jake's Place goes to most B and A horse shows, but they won't hit down here (Woodside) for a while which is unfortunate.

I <3 Carousel Saddlery, they have an awesome annual sale in October, picked up a Beacon Hill shirt for $15 and a pair of Miller's Breeches (for schooling) for $5 lol. Brand new both of them.

Also you might want to check out Beval Saddlery (online) they are having their annual sale right now! Beval.com

i have been to Shaws but never to Carousel but ill check it out.

I'd have to agree with Void on this. For a while it was about 50/50 with GPAs and COs, but I think the CO's have finally won out. I think it's mainly because they're a little less expensive and they have several different models to fit different head shapes. GPAs tend to not fit certain people well. The SpeedAirs are still pretty darn popular though.

Be sure to try on as many as you can and see what's going to fit you the best. IN the end that's what matters most. Be sure you try on the CO's especially. They're all designed for specific head/face shapes. The GR8 looks absolutely ridiculous on me, the AYR8 looks decent, the Wellington is fabulous (of course the most expensive one...)

I have both the Tipperary and an IRH. I really like the IRH, but can't tolerate the lack of venting in the summer...in my opinion, it gets really hot/uncomfortable.

Hence I purchased the Tipperary for schooling in the warmer weather as it is heavily vented (i admit it looks a little strange, but the venting is nice).

If I were to show, I'd reach for the IRH.....the Tipperary isn't something that would look correct in a Hunter/Eq. class. JMO.

No one is talking about a Tippery helmet here except you lol
