So the vet came out--bad news for Gidgit
So I have mentioned that Gidgit has been having some issues with behavior.I was getting concerned and called the vet and found out she has a bad back. It's very sore on the spine,sides,withers...pretty much everywhere. They checked her mouth out and she needs a dental and some teeth pulled.
She is out for a month of riding..maybe longer. She will be doing ground work and I will be massaging her a lot! She is being put on some bute to take down the pain. She is hurting reeeally bad right now.
I feel guilty for riding her now.
They checked my tack and everything is still fitting wrong so I am on another mission on finding another saddle! This time I will try and call around to find a professional saddle fitter. The bit that I got ended up being slightly bent which made it lop sided in her mouth so I am going to be using a snaffle for her once I am able to ride her again.
Everyone wish her well!
She is a hurting cowgirl right now.
i have that some problem with Buzz and his saddle I just have to saddle pads and a riser to make sure it doesnt hurt him its worked :)
thats so sad hopefully she makes a speedy recovery and you can find tack that fits propely
I'd get a professional equine massage therapist and/or an equine chiropractor, I'd reccomend both.
I have tried both on my horses and they work wonders, if you find a good one!
I'm sorry to hear all that! I wish her to be OK in no time!
On good side lots of massage and messing with your horse for sure will build even better bond between you two. All horses love attention. :-)
I love my equine chiropractor! You should try to find one in your area. Mine works on my geldings every spring to get them loose and ready after winter being so icy here. But he writes a sheet with all the areas that were out of alignment, you would be amazed at the things that you might not ever even think about. So I would defiantly recommend an equine chiropractor!
wow, so sorry to hear everything. I hope your girl will be feeling better soon.
A prof. saddle fitter may be a real good idea at this point. I would wait until she is better tho.
Depending on how long you've had her and have been riding in the ill fitting tack, that her problems, both physical and behavioral, may be caused by that. If that is the case, and she didn't come with the back problems (that is another thing entirely), you should see a drastic improvement once her tack fits and her back has had some therapy.
As for the dental work, are you referring to wolf teeth?
Good luck with her.
She has had an attitude problem since I got her(which has only been a month). She would pin her ears back and toss her head the same. It's just gotten worse as time has gone by and I will blame it on me as well because I had the wrong tack. I need to have a professional saddle fitter come by when Gidgit makes a full recovery.
I was referring to her wolf teeth. She also needs her teeth floated.
if you saddle is pinching her i had the same prob. with my girl she was acting crazy and i had no idea why so i asked for help and found out my saddle was pinching her b/c my girl has high withers! so i bought this pad
Professional's Choice- Charmayne James SMx Air Ride OrthoSport Barrel Saddle Pad
it's quite an investment but its deff. worth it!
it worked for my horsie :) & i dont do barrels, i do pleasure classes i
picked this pad cause its smaller so it will fit under my pretty show
hope this helps :)
Saddle fitting can be pretty critical and a good pad is just as important. The only pad I use is the 5 star all felt pad but I'm sure others will give you other suggestions. Pinning ears is one of the primary tell-tails of a horse that is in pain. You'll know things like that as you go along.
Still having wolf teeth indicates to me that you have a relatively young horse - 4 or 5 year old? That is pretty typical and easily fixed.
