BluMagic 12-16-2007 08:53 PM

I don't think they have to be a certain length.

BluMagic 12-16-2007 08:55 PM

Nope, I couldn't find anything about tail length for a racehorse...

horse_luver4e 12-16-2007 09:36 PM

ok just wondering becuase i guess if it's too long they might step on it when there racing.

BluMagic 12-16-2007 10:13 PM

I doubt it if they are running straight! lol.

Although, possible for eventing and performance...

Yeah, tail length doesn't matter. When they're running, their tails are too far behind them for them to step on it. Some racing trainers bang their horse's tails since it looks nicer, but otherwise I don't think anybody really worries about how long they are.

Im assuming you are talking about thoroughbreds correct? We dont trim our standardbreds at all. Most of them dont get to be long enough that it requires cutting to begin with. Although I believe with thoroughbreds its popular to trim their tails to about the level of their hock. When I bought my thoroughbred his tail was cut to his hock, also his mane was pulled.

Hope that helped!
