How I got my Horse, Oakey

I was doing a science experiment in the kitchen one day in early fall 2007 when a red pickup truck pulled into the driveway. A man got out and came to the door. My mom, who was helping me with the experiment, answered the door. They chatted for a couple minutes before Mom called me over to the door. The man was a hay customer of ours, but he hadn't come to buy hay. He had come to offer me his horse –as a gift. Ever since I was a little boy I had wanted a horse, so this wasn't a hard decision to make. I did, however, have to get permission from Dad. He gave the OK, and I proceeded to make the arrangements to get Oakey in my pasture. Within a month, he was mine.

One other thing. Not only did I get Oakey, but I also received all the tack – halter, lead rope, bridle, and a real nice saddle!

@My2Geldings: He actually wasn't the best trained horse in the world, but he didn't have any health problems, and he's such a big pet. :) In our training, he's actually learning really fast! He's leaps and bounds better now than he was 3 years ago!

I wish somebody would just offer me a horse! That's so awesome though. He's a cutie =)

I got Hunter for free. He wasn't being taken care of properly for his age (2) and she was giving him away. I wasn't planning on getting my own horse as I was happily leasing Duke. But he was so darn cute I couldn't resist. But he wasn't really free as he needed to be gelded AND a hernia operation (cost $1800 for both). THEN we needed to buy a horse trailer. So my FREE horse cost about $3500 but he is a happy growing boy now (everyone think GROW GROW lol)

I have the same story with Pilot!! My mom had asked this lady she knows to look for a good horse for us but instead she offered us Pilot...as a gift. She sent us with a nice bridle, saddle, leads, brushes, spurs, tack box, and probably some more stuff. That is really cool though (and another thing in common ;).
