Pics of ze new guy! And small Lilly update
Around two days ago, through a rather serendipitous transaction with our local feed store clerk, we managed to locate and eventually adopt a neglected 13 yo Crabbet/Egyptian Arabian gelding. He hasn't been around other horses for several years and has some interesting anxious tendencies...but when he is paying attention to you, he is very gentle and kind. His brain must be on sensory overload atm.
Here are some pics of Sir Colonel Pickering of the 77th Light Infantry Brigade, known to a select few comrades down at the hunting lounge simply as "Pickles".
He is about a 2.5 on the body condition scale, and 15.2 hh. I can't wait to see him shed out and sleek and healthy in a few months. His father is GS Khochise. :<
He and Lilly are already getting along just fine. She already prefers him over Bodacious, the other gelding on the property (much to his chagrin). Lilly herself is doing better and better, especially as far as leading is concerned. She used to have a bad habit of not being able to respect your space in a very big way, but through some persistent work she now leads rather nicely. I'm working on getting her in shape for some local halter classes, and perhaps English pleasure as well. Her personality has really blossomed in this past month. I think it's safe to say we have quite the comedian on our hands.
Sorry, butt shot! Is it weird I think this this a nice photo though? lol
Nibbling some dropped hay, with 16 yo QH mare Sassy hanging out in the background.
It's sorta funny that when we started out, I knew absolutely nothing about Arabs. I was like a lot of people in thinking that they were all just a bunch of hot frothing weirdos, but now we have two of them...and I've fallen in love with the breed. Go figure.
I love his ears! : )
lol yeah, we almost named him Spock.
Good for you with the new gelding. I really like him, he's quite the little beauty. Will be exciting to see how he turns out with some food and a few good months of good grooming will turn him out nicely.
He has got a very nice head/face... I bet he will be gorgeous as he fills out. Keep us posted!
