Half Chaps and eventing

ok, this seems like a silly question but i'll give it a go anyway:
Are half chaps acceptable for lower level eventing?

EventinginMI 02-21-2010 02:52 PM

Half-chaps are not allowed. A full-grain black or brown smooth, fully leather leg piece and matching boots are allowed.
http://www.usef.org/documents/ruleBook/2009/12-EV.pdf is the best place for you to read all the rules- dress included.

Right, sloppy "half chaps" are not allowed. Nicer boot-style leggings with matching paddock boots are. I encourage my students to wear them on XC. Anyone who has had to have a custom boot pulled off of a broken leg (I threatened to hurt the doctor if he cut it off! LOL!) will encourage it.

My friend wore half chaps on XC once, because she's 12 and didn't own full length boots. She wasn't penalized for it.... it was at a regonized BN show too. *shurgs* maye it's different for some shows? She wore those garterish things in dressage and stadium...

I agree, no 1/2 chaps for Eventing - sorry :(

I grew up in Pony Club and was always taught that tall boots are the only acceptable way to go. Now-a-days, I see so many wearing paddock boots and 1/2 chaps, over jeans...ugh.....I cringe whenever I see that.

I grew up that way though :) It was ingrained in me and always will be.

1/2 chaps are ok for playing around at home at in a lesson, if the coach permits it - but aside from that, you should always dress respectable.

Again, now that two piece boots are allowed, I encourage them for XC. It is just too easy to be injured and need quick removal of legwear. All other phases should have formal boots, IMO.

I like boots and wear three buckle field boots on XC.

For unrated schoolig events, they are fine as long as they look nice and match your paddock boots. For a USEA event beginner novice and up, they are not allowed.

Is a leather leg peice simmilar to half chaps? (another silly question)

Yeah, it is. Honestly, I was looking at prices, and for a good half chap, you're probably better off investing in tall, zip-back field boots.
Something like this:
Ariat Concord Half Chaps - Dover Saddlery.
vs. a boot like this:
Dublin RCS Aristocrat Zip Field Boot - Dover Saddlery.

You might want to think about investing in a tall pair of zip-back boots. =] I have those field boots above, and man, do I adore them.
