Lying down

Why is lying a horse down an advancd horsemanship thing?

The horse must have a great deal of confidence and trust in his handler because laying down is a very vulnerable position for the horse to be in. If the horse doesn't trust you, he will fight if you try to lay him down. It's not something that can be forced. Well, it can, but it's horrible when people force a horse to lay down.
