Sage Update *X-Rays Needed (* Picture Heavy *)
Hi everyone. Break time at work so I wanted to update on Sage. She's been doing very good up until last Thursday. I pulled her out of pasture and got her up to the arena only to notice her nose starting to run like the previous time. I'm positive she thought I was nuts but I brushed her out and called the vet for more antibiotic powder promising to contact another vet with x-ray capabilities. She sneezed yesterday while the farrier was rasping her front left. She left slimy nasty boogers on him, felt bad.
I got ahold of the other vet and the soonest he could see her is this coming Friday. Absolutely fine with me. He will be checking her teeth. My vet believes they could be disturbing the sinus cavity. Plus with the teeth coming in a little to the outside it's a bit of concern. Jokingly said she may need braces. A guy I work with said that a boarder of his had a mare that had a similar problem that required surgery. I hope nothing too major will come of this.
Work has been so busy lately that last week I didn't have a chance to ride her. I've been giving her a little grain with meds (water/molasses). Kenny came out Sunday for a lesson and said she was high. haha Poor guy asked what they were feeding her. It didn't dawn on me until that evening that I was giving her molasses. Now the reason I believe that I did it is because she just started acting this way. I also wasn't exactly measuring the molasses. I was in a hurry and would just pour a little in. I believe I got a little pour happy.
She finally settled down after we lunged her a little and turned her out in the arena. He said the good thing to know about her now is even when she is high and has that far away look in her eye that she will still relax after a little bit and start paying attention.
I decided that even if I didn't have time to ride her I could take a few minutes and turn her loose in the arena to run around like a banshee to get her engery out.
Does anyone use a smart cinch? I'd be open to opinions on them. I need to get a way shorter cinch. I've been making the one I have work for now. I was thinking of getting a smart cinch but not sure what to think of them. Kenny said that they are okay but don't sit on the horse like he would prefer. He said they tend to sit at an angle on some horses. Although the smart cinch he is using seemed to sit evenly on Sage.
These are a few of the pictures I took Sunday. I'm taking my camera with me Friday to take pictures as well. Thank you for your time and looking.

omg class pics!
awsome pics and gorgeous girl! I use a smart cinch, and i dont really like them, there actually kind of a pain in the ass. But i might be using it wrong or something, i dont know. And ya mine sits at an angle to. Has your vet cultured her runny nose?
Not as of yet she hasn't cultured it. It was a light yellow color with a cough. She's already had strangles so that is ruled out. She looked at her I guess almost a month ago and determined a sinus infection after floating her teeth and all that good stuff. Her teeth are coming in really wonky. This vet Friday will check the x-ray and then I guess we'll go from there. I'm leaning towards it's her teeth messing with her. The bottoms are making her jaw bone bumpy as well. I hope they fix this soon.
She's awesome :-)
I use a Smartcinch and really like it!
No smart cinch. It's such a pain in my ass that I finally threw it against the wall and went back to my old one. Luckily it was eaten by mice this winter. Good riddance!
Thank you for the info.
I think what I'll do is keep getting opinions on them for awhile and just stick with a normal mohair cinch. lol
Gorgeous horse! Awesome pics! I used a smart cinch once, it was okay, I didn't really notice a differance
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.
