Shetland & Donkey Hooves
I have recently bought a Shetland pony and 2 donkeys, all 1 year old. I used to have horses as a child but never a Shetland or donkeys, I have forgotten some of the basics.
At what age do you start to pick out a horses hooves? I know you have to pick them out every day for a horse, but is it the same with a donkey?
Thanks for your time
Yup same with every hooved animal, hooves are hooves, they need to be trimmed and cleaned on a regular basis.
Welcome to the forum!
Although it would be great to clean out a horse's hooves each day, it really is impractical. I have 4 at the farm and some of my friends have upwards of 10. Clean them every day? Impossible.
However, it is a good practice for yearlings to have their feet handled often - even the donkey.
