a burgh is the Scottish term for a town, every year a cornet and his lass along with the standard barer are chosen buy public vote to lead cavalcade of riders out of the town round the burgh boundaries.
it doesn't just happen in my town either.
its really great fun its been our towns tradition dating back about 700 years :)
i think the tradition is based on way back in the days where the soldiers would have to check the boundaries for any oncoming attacks kind of thing
