Horse back not flat
Kinda stupid question, but...
My qh has flat back. My paint however has visible spine (I mean, not flat, but kinda smooth hill looking on back). They are fed same, and paint certainly don't look thin or anything (has filled sides and big butt). Even when she was overfed last year (we thought she was truly pregnant until vet came out), she had the non-flat back. My feeling always has been that fat horses should have flat back. Is that true or really depends on conformation etc.?
There are no stupid questions.
But this might be a stupid answer.....
In my experience, some breeds of horses are simply built-better than other breeds. By that I mean that some breeds are more defined as to muscle structure and tone. They are also, most-usualy much sronger for their size than some other breeds.
For lack of a better word, I call them "Well Built".
I put the American Quarter Horse in with the "well built" breeds.
On the other hand.....most Paints, aint.
That's not to say that a Paint is not a good horse because some of them certainly are. I'm just saying that there's not many Paints that are built as well as a QH. And them that are, probably have a lot of QH in them.
No offense meant.
Oh no, of course no offense. I really appreciate your input. In fact my paint has lots of TB blood in her, so I assume that may dominant over qh blood.
I've seen bunch of horses with non-flat top, but they were skinny (skinny sides, skinny butts, etc.). That's certainly not a case, so I assume she's just weirdly built. Lol!
We have full brothers, QH's. One is like your paint and the other is more on the flat side.
She's built the way she should be
My mare is half TB and half QH. She is quite tall, has high withers and has an overall build about like what you described with your paint.
So maybe you are right about the blood-dominance thing.
