Sport Reins Anyone?
So, I rode my horse with my trainer's sport reins the other day and I must say that I absolutly looove them! Perfect length (10ft) and I can really feel Ransom's mouth! So much easier than using split reins. I used to always messing with those darn split reins and not being able to concentrate on riding. Flexing him and one-rein stopping is a dream now! Anyone else using sport reins out there!

I have a pair but don't really like using them. I guess that I am just used to split reins and I don't have any problem with bending or correcting with them. The only time I don't like split reins is when I'm roping, the ends sometimes get in the way.

I hate sport reins! I'm more used to split reins. I can do anything in them including lateral flexion, and all that good stuff. As smrobs said, sometimes the ends can get in the way when you're doing really physical stuff like roping.

The only time I ride with sport reins is when I'm just messing around and riding her with just a halter on. Than I'll use them.

I kinda like sport reins, but lately I have been using split reins so I am actually get pretty good handling them. I just cross them over my horses neck and they stay pretty well. I dont do any roping although I always thought it would be fun to try to dummy rope a haybale.

Ok, so nobody really cares for the sport reins huh. I do like split reins don't get me wrong but I just have an easier time with the sport reins at this point in time. I ordered some the other day. I would usually just throw the split reins around my boy's neck but I had trouble keeping them even on both sides. Guess I will need more practice with that later.

I hate split reins, but I ride all of our horses in English bridles, no matter what saddle I have on them, lol. English reins are usually 9-10' long total, so about the same as sport reins.

Are sport reins the same as roping or barrel racing reins? I personally don't have a preference. . .

What are sport reins? Are they short?

I personally love my braided cotton split reins which i use for most of my riding. I sometimes use my brass buckled reins for showing, and I have clip on one piece cotton reins I use sometimes for mounted games/polocrosse.

I prefer the sport rein (aka continuous rein) myself. I like the look of horses that are short coupled, and the single rein is really nice. I was broken hearted when I finally found the mare of my dreams many years ago only to find that the continuous rein I had was too short for her - she could yank the rein right out of my hand just by lowering her head. Hubby found me one that was a little longer and that solved the problem. Back then, the only time I rode with a split rein was in parades, because the club I rode with all had uniforms for both horse and rider - including reins.

I have found a tack set that has a continuous rein I really like for Dancer. If she'd hurry up and have that dang foal...
