Bathing and Pulling Mane
I have some questions about bathing my horse and pulling his mane.
1 - What should the temperature outside be? I know it shouldn't be cold but I don't want to misjudge. What shampoo should I use?
2 - how in the world do you pull mane and does it hurt?
To pull the mane exercise your horse befpre hand to open the pores brush it thouroughly tru then using a metal pulling comb and starting at the poll take SMALL sections brush the hair back to the rooth wrap the ends around the comb and pull it in one quick sharp movement. It doesnt hurt the horses as they have no nerves in the mane but can feel uncomfortable so maybe tie up a hay net to nibble on whilst doing it if the mane is very long and thick dont do it all in one day do little bits at a time. For bathing my genereal rule of thumb if its warm enough for me to wear a tee-shirt comfortably its warm to wash You can get different horse shampoos in the tack shop for differnent colours and stuff which are quiet good just make sure to remove all residue after or can give the horses sore flaky skin. Hope this helps!
i only bathe if its over 60F
Pulling the mane doesn't hurt the horse, but it is kind of a long and tedious tasks and the horse can get bored, and start to squirm, wiggle, or jerk their head. As someone else suggested, maybe tie a hay net up.
