Trainer did not show up, correct thinking or not
My trainer had other life issues and could not make my lesson today....

So I worked with Citrus and was so impressed with his trying to get his right lead. I learned today that if I back off of him a bit, he will figure things out.... he will never be described as a fast thinker, but he does think things through.... here is what happened.

I took him into the round pen and worked him mostly to the right. Got his left lead when going to the right. I relaxed and as I did, after a few strides at the left lead going right, he switched his front end.... so now front end is right lead.... and after a few more strides, he switched his hind end so he was going right lead to the right.

It was somehow endearing to watch him figuring out his legs and how they work together and positioning..... made me love him more because I saw his heart today :)

I am not actually sure what you want out of this thread to be honest!

But I'm glad your boy figured it out on his own. :D Congrats!

It could of been that he found it more comfortable to canter in the correct leads, so he changed them on his own. After reading your other post about the trainer and fixing his right lead. He might not get the correct lead while under saddle or even being lunged and I mean when you ask for the correct lead not wait until he figures it out again.
Have you thought about doing excersizes to help with his leads? Trasintions? On the ground first and then work into going under saddle.

I do think lots of ground work is in his future. Thanks for responding :)
