I need some ideas ..please help
We have this little deck in the back that we don't use. So i have a little cat house that is on the deck. We have 2 feral cats that come to the house every day to eat. So thats why the house is there.
Anyways...the deck gets the afternoon sun. There is no shade for the deck. We dont have a roof that reaches over the deck to provide shade. In the picture you see a big bush..so that gives some shade. but not alot.
I need some ideas of what i can do to put a cover on top for shade. I want the cat house to be nice and cool for the cats to go into. I also have a water bowl for them I want there water to be cool too. I dont want them drinking warm water. You know?
So ideas would be nice.
Here is the picture of our little deck.
I can't think of anything other than putting another shrub on the other side of the porch there. Anything else is probably much too much work for trying to get some shade for cat's water bowls  I mean, you could take out the other existing shrub, erect a nice pergola, and plant some pretty wysteria or other climbing vine to grow across it. It's that or put a roof on there - I doubt you are wanting to make major structural changes to your house over this. I'd either move the cat house to a shaded area, or if there is no other option, try at least planting a shrub on the other side of the decking as well.
Here's a thought! The shrub you have there needs trimmed anyways. Why not just trim a bit out of the bottom, and slide the cat house in underneath it's branches next to the deck on the ground?
The cat house wont fit under the deck. I dont like to put it on the ground because when we get big rain storms..the ground over there would flood. I had it on the ground in the very beginning...i did not work out because of the flood and the snow. So i moved it on the deck to keep it dry and safe.
Last year when we had the kittens,i put a big launge chair on top of the railing...but mom didn't like the idea..just incase the wind would blow it away.
I can't think of anything as far as shade, but maybe to help keep the water cooler you could add an ice cube or two to it a couple times day. (morning before work/school and afternoon when you get home) at least that way it takes longer to become warm.
If you do not use the deck then just get some lattice at the local home repair store and make a 'roof' for the deck using that. You will probably need to build it a frame so it is not sagging and falling down on the cats.
You might want to check into if there is a good TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) program in your area. You can trap the cats and for a small fee they can get neutered and have some vaccines. After their surgery you can let them loose again. It will make their lives much easier.
