Ok, this might be a strange question, but has anyone else ever had experience of other horses not liking palominos?
I've owned two palomino mares and both of them got bullied by the other horses in the field. This happened about 10 years apart and at two different yards.
My first mare, Goldie, was chased out of the field over a 5 bar gate and generally just chased about on a regular basis.
My second mare, Molly, was also chased around and we arrived at the stables one day to find her on the floor and a 12.2 pony standing on top of her.
I don't know whether it was their colouring or whether because they were mild mannered ladies but either way, the other horses really didn't like them.
Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?
hmmm thats strange! ive never heard of anything like that... except my old horse was terrified of duns the first time he saw them XD haha silly horse.
well i own a palomino paint and my horse and my moms horse haven't really been together except when they were riding together and they were fine maybe for you it was just a weird thing that happened because ive never heard of anything like that.
It's just odd isn't it?
I've asked a few other people and they never heard of anything like it either. Maybe it's just because they were both really laid back and got taken advantage of.
It was dreadful when the one got chased out of the field, I was expecting to find her with a broken leg.
Ridergirl, that made me laugh about your horse being afraid of duns, isn't it funny what they spook at! I used to ride a horse that freaked out when she saw paint on the road.
Dusty, I've never seen a palomino paint before but yours is just gorgeous
some of the pics I have of her she is a bit dirty.
Thank you again.
I still think that is weird about your experiences with your palominos. Maybe you are right that being a laid back horse maybe that is what caused it. I think it is pretty sad that you came back and you saw your horse on the ground with a pony standing on her.
That was either a mean/bossy pony or your horse just might've been laid back enough to give off the sense of being abled to be bullied(if that makes sense).
Well sorry for the rambling on.
Thankfully I didn't see her being stood on because I think I would have freaked out. The pony doing it was a little swine but even the really old horse in the field chased her.
She was a very gentle little mare so maybe it was that.
She really was a sweetheart and I miss her like mad.
When we got her, we were actually looking for a bay, working hunter type, about 9 or 10 and around 15.2. We ended up with Molly, a very thin, 20 year old, 14.2 palomino. I wasn't ever there when my mum and her friend went to get her, they felt so sorry for her, they couldn't leave her. We had to have two of her teeth taken out because they were so bad and for the first two weeks, I had to ride her in just a saddle cloth because she got really bad girth galls. We used to walk pretty much everywhere.
She was the type of horse that could easily have been abused and taken advantage of in the wrong hands.
Luckily she was moved out of whatever environment she was in, otherwise, who knows what would have happened to her.
That is overall so sad though. I honestly don't get what could drive a person to want to abuse their horse it is just why get a horse if you are going to just beat the living tar out of them.
It is a good thing that your mom and aunt decided to get her, and who knows, you and your mom and aunt might have just saved her life by getting her.
I'm not 100% sure if it is true, but I have heard that horses cannot see the colour yellow. Maybe that could have something to do with it?
Cowboy harasses Turd(palomino) tenfold what he has other horses - other than the OTQH we rehabbed once.
that is odd
my palomino mare was the boss and my friends pal. gelding is pretty bossy aswell
