tail plaiting

I attempted to plait my horses tail today and I think I did alright for a first timer. But the hairs at the top of her tail are to short. They stayed in the braid for a minute or two but they wouldn't stay. How can I fix this? If it helps I'll get a pic to show you guys tomorrow.

Hair gel! I think most horses have really short hairs at the top of their tails.. (Mine does, and he doesn't rub it out)

Hair gel works quite well, but if you're planning on leaving it in over night it may be wise to use something like Wella Wax or Bed Head thats alot stronger.. Remember to keep you're plaits fine and delicate.. After plaiting, spray with hair spray and cover it with part of a stocking leg (same goes for manes) and bandage.. Spray some furniture polish like Mr. Sheen through ends of the tail on show day and voila!! Perfect tails!!

Hope this helps!! Xxx

Have you ever heard of M-T-G? because its basically a formula that helps hair grow and i use that on the mare i least and i just put a bit in the top of her tail. It works great i used it for about 5 days and the short hairs were already about an inch or two longer! Ok heres what the bottle says.

For tail growth: Apply Original M-T-G lightly to dry tail, massaging into tailbone and leave in. For maximum results loosely braid and bag tail. Do not wrap tailbone. Once a week, reapply Original M-T-G and re-braid.

I don't think you have to go by the once a week thing if it's not braided. The people at my barn told me to use daily or whenever i came out to work with her.

I hope this helps. It worked well for me. The cool thing is is that it helps the fur grow back where they might have been bitten also.
