Jumping in Texas???
I am new to the forum and also new to Texas having just moved here from Melbourne (Australia) a few months ago.
I'm just wondering what's around in terms of dressage/showjumping in a state that seems predominantly western (western is amazing too, I now have a newfound appreciation for it).
My background is re-training racehorses (lots and lots and lots of them!) and I am considering doing the same here in summer while I am on holiday from college.
I was training at Elementary dressage level and D grade showjumping back home with several different horses. I have also done some 2 day Eventing (competing Preliminary, training at Pre-Novice). My favourite thing is to train green horses (preferably thoroughbreds) but would really like to hear from people who have knowledge in regards to the local dressage or SJ communities. I am looking at getting a horse in the next month and am interested to know what my options might be? I posted this in the dressage section also...
Eventing is predominant in Texas. Go to the USEA site for alot more info on training barns. You will probablysee me and my horse out there!!!! See ya on the course ;)

There are A LOT of hunter/jumper folk in Texas! We show quite a bit down there.
Where in Texas are you?
If you are in the Austin area pm me and I can give you some info. I just went through a long search before I found my trainer. And welcome!!
Great events down there. Greenwood, Meadowcreek, and some others. USEA - United States Eventing Association (Eventing, Combined Training, Three Day Event, Horse Triathlon, Equestrian Sport)
Yay! Thanks guys, much appreciated. I loved Eventing when I was competing, nothing beats the excitement of Cross Country.
I am currently living in Austin but have started training a few horses for people closer to Houston also so I plan to be back and forth a bit over summer while I am on holiday from college. Glad to hear there are a few of you jumping people out there, I was worried I would have to start cattle roping or something:)
I'll definately check out the websites for some info too.
Greenwood is an AMAZING event! It's running in three weeks, and you are def welcome to come check it out!!! We have alot of fun up here!!!! Medowcreek is really pretty too!!! Feathercreek is nice, an it's in Oaklahoma. Holly Hill is in Louisiana, and it's probably my favorite event. It's a really good intro into all the different levels, and American eventing. The other one that I know of is here in Arkansas, Jubilee Horse Trials. It's a one day event through training level, and it's nice when it's been dry for a month, lol!

I definitely know how you feel. I live in Beaumont and finding a good hunter/jumper stables took months. Especially considering I only had two to choose from lol. OH! And welcome to big ol' Texas! Hope you like it here! :)
I might try to come and take a look at Greenwood, very very tempting. I have final exams the first week of May though so have promised myself to concentrate on study until then.
However....I may have a couple of Thoroughbreds coming my way soon... They have been off the track for six months and not done much since, I feel months and months of flatwork coming on... MAYBE some cavaletti....
For sure come! They're running a CCI* and CCI** that weekend, along with a 2' division(GREAT for starting horses out when the time comes) through an Intermediate division. Almost everyone goes to that event too. :)
Ugh, I hear you on the school work.... focusing is NOT easy right now!
