Test transition question
If a dressage test calls for trot at A, (instead of between two letters) when do you execute the transition? I was told I have to pick up the trot as my horse's shoulder passes the letter. Is this accurate?

That is correct :D

I did not know that!

I've been told that you should be trotting right as your body is at the letter. So, I suppose asking for it as your horse's shoulder passes the letter would be correct (unless you have a lazy horse :P).
Yes, I believe it's shoulder. However, if the command is to trot at A, I will start preparing myself and the horse for the transition in the corner before. You want to avoid a lazy transition (a horse that walks faster, often laterally, for a few steps before trotting) and an ambush transition as I call it-the horse seems to be quite surprised by the command and jerks into the gait.

Yeah, the new test has the free walk in the middle of the test, medium walk from F to A, and then working trot at A. Looks like the trick will be getting a nice energetic medium walk set up before the trot transition without overdoing the walk. We've had 3 whole days to get ready for our first show between Puck being sick and us moving barns. Should be a fun show! Watch, this will be the one we nail.

Speaking of which - what happened with that Tadpole HT?

May 22nd for tadpoles! Gotta get this combined show out of the way first. We're going to go out and school over small twigs to get ready for the tadpole show next week!
