Which saddle?
I was wondering if you could tell which one you would prefer because I've never ridden in either.
The three I like are the: ( please comment and tell which you think is the better choice) please show me others if you have ones that you think I may like better

I'm using an all purpose saddle but I'm leaning towards close contact or jumping
So would I get a jumping saddle or just all purpose?

I LOVE my Siegfried! I've had it since I was 12 (it was a little big for me, but now it fits me perfectly).. I'm not sure of the model number, but I think its the VSS. I can't gush about it enough, its so comfortable! I've ridden in it in Hunt OF classes and Hunter Pleasure classes.. even a couple Jumper classes! At A-rated and local shows. I would undoubtedly reccommend it! =]

Yeah, I really like the stubben, but I've been told they're hard to fit saddles for the horse. Thanks for your comment it still is my favorite saddle. What do you think about wintecs? (some have adjustable gullets)

drop_your_reins 01-13-2008 09:24 PM

I've never used wintecs, so I don't really have an opinion on them. I've never had a problem fitting my stuuben to horses, and I use it at three different barns. (It fights my stocky Morgan, various sized quarter horses, 16.3h thick boned TB, thinner smaller TBs, fat appaloosa, several other Morgans [some taller/leaner than my own], etc. etc.).. I'll have to find out what sized tree I have, so I can let you know. =]

I used to ride in a Siegfried. I preferred it over some of the other saddles I rode in. It's a great saddle. My vote goes toward it 100% of the way.

I have a Wintec all purpose with the CAIR system and changeable gullet system, and I love it. It's good for horses with somewhat sensitive backs as the panels are filled with air rather then what they are normally filled with, and the changeable gullet system lets you fit it to any sized horse. Its also sooo comfortable for yourself! And they're really easy to clean. You can also wintec saddles for dressage and jumping, not just all purpose if your leaning towards jumping. My mare seems to like the saddle, and i absolutely love it, so I'd recommend a Wintec any day. Good luck with finding a saddle that you like!

I saw that you're looking at Stubben saddles, and just had to comment that I owned a Juventus (sp??) and LOVED it. Normally I don't really like Stubben saddles, I find them too hard, but this one was amazing.
I currently own an Eventing saddle, which I find allows me to do both jumping and a bit of dressage as well, and it has a deeper seat than your usual All Purpose.
Some tack stores offer saddle fitting for a small fee. They get some stats from you at the store, then set up a time to bring saddles that they think will work out to your barn and you get to try them there.. with the advantage of a trained professional that can tell you right then and there if the saddle fits you and the horse correctly.
Take your time looking, and good luck!

I really love my HDR - it fits almost any horse I ride, which is a huge plus. It's also comfortable, which again, is a plus.
But, I've heard stubbon's are great. I've ridden in a few, however they're older.

Also, if your jumping, make sure to get a jump saddle. Don't get a close contact, because if you do, your legs will come forward easily!

That is completely dependant on you, your body type, and your personal preferance. I tend to agree with JustDressageIt, I think Stubbens tend to be hard and a little uncomfortable (although they seem to last forever) but there have been several people here who love them. Saddles fit people differently and you really have to know what you prefer and most importantly where it puts your leg. Just because something is good for one person doesn't mean it'll fit you well. I'd highly recommend finding a way to try a couple out and see what you like about them.
