When should I start riding again?
I'm going to try and make this really long story a very short one, lol. My mare developed a swollen leg about a month and a half to two months ago. The vet came out about two, two and a half weeks ago and diagnosed her as having strained soft tissue in her feet from a long toe, suggesting a good trim and maybe shoes. The swelling was caused by her putting more weight on that leg to compensate for the extra pain in the other leg.

So the farrier came out on the 20th, trimmed her up, and put natural balance shoes on her. Since then, she has been feeling better, I can tell by the way she is standing more square. She hasn't been as lame, and when I lunged her a bit today, she didn't seem lame at all. She's been out of work for about two months, and I know all about getting her back in shape slowly. I'm just not sure WHEN I should start the process, lol.

I was told before the diagnosis that if the leg was swollen for two weeks, I should wait two weeks after that to start riding. If it was swollen three weeks to wait three weeks, etc. But since it turned out to not be her leg at all, I'm not sure if that rule still applies? But seeing as it is soft tissue strain, it would still need time to recover, even though with the trim and shoes, it's no longer being strained. Does that make sense? I'm willing to wait as long as I need to, but I'm just itching to start riding again, I'm going through some serious withdrawals!
