BOSS question
I just recently started my gelding on BOSS [@ 1/2 cup per day], for coat/hoof health more than anything as he's an easy keeper and doesn't need any added weight, but I just noticed today while picking his paddock that there are several still whole, undigested seeds in his poo... is this normal? I am also able to feed flax if that would be a better option.

Thanks! :-)

I prefer milled or ground flax over BOSS. 1/2 cup is probably fine, but I just don't like feeding my horses bird food, lol. Uckele's Cocosoya oil is very affordable and has great Omega 3s.

I think flax (must be ground so they get nutrition from it and it doesn't pass through whole) is preferable to BOSS because one has omega 3's and one has omega 6's and one is anti-inflammatory and one is inflammatory. I don't remember which omega is the "good" one, but I know flax has the good one and BOSS has the inflammatory one.

I fed BOSS for a while but really didn't notice any difference in the horses. I never fed flax because it was pretty expensive.

Now I feed rice bran and the horses really have glowing, beautiful summer coats. :D

Omega 3 is the good one. Omega 6 fatty acids are commonly found in hay and grains (and corn oil). Most horses get plenty. Omega 3 FA's are what you should be supplementing.
