Saddle fitting questions?
For almost my whole riding career I trained with George Williams and he had his own saddle lady. So I got all my saddles from her and they were professionally fit. Well now I don't do dressage anymore and I am on my own and don't know what to do. I has a paint gelding and a wintec all purpose 250 with the original gullet.
I know the basics...that it needs to have even pressure all the way around and everything. For the most part it does. when running my hand from top to bottom, it gets a little tighter in the middle. When going under the saddle in the back it seems to be pretty even. The sweat makes on my saddle pad are pretty even, except there is less marks around the wither area. But I just have a feeling its not fitting perfectly.
Everyone at my barn rides western and doesn't know anything about fitting an english saddle. I know I can get different gullets and the gullet gage, but I don't want to spend the money unless thats what I need to do for sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I have someone come out? If so how do I find someone? lol any help would be greatly appreciated!
Wintec 250s do not have the changable gullet system. At least, none of the ones I have seen do.
Okay, I take that back. The newer ones have the changeable gullet system. They did not in the past.

Here is a very comprehensive saddle fitting guide. It's geared toward treeless saddles, but there is a lot of good information there.

The saddle should have the same angle as the horse at the front. The panels should sit evenly front to back. The rear panels should sit flat on the horse's back with good spinal clearance. The balance of the saddle front to back should be evem.
thank you very much!!! i will check those out :)
