Getting a White Face Clean
My boy has a completely white face...or rather, he has a completely white-ish face. It is currently somewhat yellowed, and he somehow got grass stains on his forehead. So, my question is, what is the best way to get his face clean for a show? I hate to use any kind of shampoo, as I wouldn't want any of it to get in his eyes...what do you recommend?

This is him.... ♥

My clyde has almost the exact same white face. I use Purple shampoo (shimmering lights) on her face and use my fingers to rub it in I make her face really wet before I apply the suds. Then with a shower setting on the hose head I spray her face with the head right against her and just kinda massage the water in until the soap is gone.

I just sponge my geldings off because he HATES being sprayed in the face with water. I'm working on it though....... Or you can use baby powder to cover the stains last minute.

I get a leave-in shampoo/conditioner that I use myself. I put a little on a tack sponge or washcloth and gently rub the stains off. I will then take a cloth soaked in water and go over the stains again. Even though its leave-in shampoo I don't like to leave it in so I wash most of it off with the cloth.

I use a baby shampoo, like a no more tears one and a sponge then spray with a mist type setting on the hose and then get a clean wet sponge and wipe away as much of the extra suds as I can. If there's too much in there then I'll get a wet sponge and just keep washing their face off with that until it's all gone.

Ditto to drafts4ever any of the whiting shampoos that are purple work great, I don't remember what it is that is in them but when you could still get DVM products they had one called pearl lite that was AMAZING!!!!! something with the purple stuff ;)

Witch Hazel and/or Alcohol will work wonders!

I would use a product called "Self rinse plus" it is made for dogs, but I use it on my boy all the time. It is a leave in shampoo. Spray his face with it and scrub all the stains. It will get very sudsy. Take a towel and dry the face. Then if there is still stains try it again until they are gone. It is a purple liquid and was made for white show dogs to get rid of stains before they go in the ring. It dries super fast.

I bought a shampoo at PetCo made for white dogs. I use it on my Q's star/stripe and sock & it comes out great. If you're worried about suds you could put it on a wash cloth or small sponge & work it into his wet hair & rinse it out the same way.

The shampoo works wonders on white!

So basically, the consensus is to use shampoo, and just be super careful not to get any in his eyes? ...they should make horse goggles...LOL.

Anyway, I love purple shampoo - I have used it on his white spots (he's a pinto) and stockings. He's not great about getting his face hosed, so the sponge would be our only option. I guess we'll try that...
