Swelled bump in center of chest..
my mare's chest got pinched here about a month ago and a little bump about the size of a ping pong ball pop out. Its soft and it just looks like a sack of fluid and doesn't bother her one bit. it has gone down a little bit in the past two weeks. I had someone come over to the barn and say that to bath it in hot salt water and that if i don't that it will turn hard and harm her. (he has been known for not knowing anything about horses and he always tries to scare me into selling my horse to him) Just wondering how much of this could be true and if there is any home remedies out there. I tried to find some dmso but i can't find any around here.

"Pinched" how/by what?

How the stalls are design in my boyfriends grandfathers barn is 4 stalls are connected with one long metal tube, kinda like the ones on big swing sets and there is a chain around it that slides back and forth. I've taking her chain off and put a rope up.

So....she was pinched by the chain? Or by the metal poles coming together? Still not understanding here.

there is only only pole, she got pinched by the chain, it never cut her open or anything just swelled up about the size of ping pong ball

The bump will not harm her BUT to reduce the bumps size try some DMSO to "sweat" out the extra fluid.

Cold hosing should also help.

Be careful about cold hosing, make sure he doesn't get a chill

Almost certainly a hematoma, especially if she was pinched by something. It probably won't hurt her at all however vetinary attention is needed for treatment. As the chest area cannot be bandaged it is diffucult to treat yourself and you don't want it converting into a fibrous mass which can sometimes happen.
Also, cold hosing/ice packs are very good but are mostly effective in the initial stages as it can reduce the swelling as the blood vessels begin leaking but once the hematoma is formed it will have little effect.
