Tennessee Walkers

My favorite breed is the walkers. I love them, i dont know why i just do. I dont like it when they rack so i just trail ride. I have a walker that doesnt gate at all and i love it. My second choice is the Quarter horse because they are muscular and can do anything.

we have 2 twh at our barn. They both bought them for a smoother ride...one of the owners has back problems.

They are like cadillacs(sp?) in the horse world. One of mine doesnt gate at all, one paces and that is terrible and one gates sometimes but it just depends on what he wants to do.

Oh no, no work needed, all we do is trail ride and the last thing i need for him to do is gait and trip on something. If i was to do any kind of work on him it would be to get him to not to gait at all. We travel all around to trail ride, we are absolutley in love with it, good ol' country is great!

I've never seen a TWH in real life, only in books. I personally don't like the way they stand [in the books] and they're just funny-looking to me. But hey, a horse is a horse. It doesn't matter greatly what it looks like to me, as long as it has an even temper and won't buck me off :P

I agree with not liking the way they are taught to stand.. so unnatural to me.
But I do love the build of TWH, I think they are lovely. I just can't do dressage with a gaited horse. :(

TWH's are all about comfort... :) That pose (called parking out) that looks so unnatural was originally begun to lower the horse's back to make mounting and dismounting easier for the rider.
Many horses are stretched too far which does make them look rather unappealing. I've attached a picture of a horse parked out appropriately.
Properly parked I think they look very attractive, but it may be an acquired taste. :P http://www.horseforum.com/userpix/38..._2407_sm_3.jpg

That's an amazing idea if it is held and I hope that it is. Saddlebreds are just now slowly making their way into dressage. Making TWH can too?

The TWH's awesome disposition is almost as much of his signature as his gait. I have some that not only would not buck you off, I think they would try to hold you on. :P
What is your breed of choice? Walkers come in so many different shapes, colors, and sizes it is relatively easy to find one with a look that is appealing to other breed owners.
