This Is Why I Ride!
Okay so if any of you read the last thread I posted about wanting to quit riding, you can be proud of me. I got through that with a little help from my mom and my mom's credit card. (We went show tack/clothing shopping. haha).
And today I remembered why I do what I do, why I push myself to the limits, why I ignore boys(hot ones) and why I don't hang out with friends as much as I should. ts because of the most amazing boy I know. Ben. He's my angel. I went out today cause I really wanted to ride and my mom said I should, and my brother said I should (shocker). It has been raining for the past 3-4 days so it was gorgeously green out. It was drizzling when I went out and the whole time tacking up Ben was grumpy and pinning his ears. I brushed it off and called him a grump, which seemed to annoy him more. lol. When we got out to the arena (its a huge grass field where we've marked off a flat arena and a jumping section) I warmed him up and he was an angel.
It started raining a bit harder and time went by and I started jumping him a bit. He was so freaking perfect. Took the warm up cross-rail perfectly 9/10 times. Then he took the vertical perfectly like every time. Then he did a course amazingly. While it was raining! Now keep in mind he's 17 years old, 14.3 hands high, it was raining, the ground was wet and some parts muddy and the jumps went from 2'-2'6". I realized this is why I do it. Why I ride in the cold and rain, so I can have these amazing memories.
What about you guys!?

Every time I think of giving up riding I end up having an amazing ride or something else amazing comes up. Right now I'm getting an adorable Arabian mare...Well she will be adorable when she is back in condition. The first time I saw her i asked about the pretty Arab out in the field and my friend goes. That ugly, old, scrawny white thing :? She is in bad shape but slowly the real her is catching up and starting to look like the her I see in my head whenever I think of her. In my head I see her fat and sassy. Trotting around in the field tail in the air neck arched. It is amazing how far a brushing over and some good hay goes towards making a scruffy, skinny horse look somewhat respectable.

I hear ya. After two totally lackluster rides last week, and then a day off for Dante after that, I figured my early AM Friday showjump lesson would be a mess - but he was amazing! I've been fantasizing about jumping him again all weekend. Love those rides. :)

the only thing that keeps me riding, truthfully, is talking to my horse crazy friend she always pushes me to keep going and i love her for it

I wish I felt the motivation, I haven't rode for a couple weeks, and it doesn't bother me. I don't know whats wrong with me. When i first got my horse there wasn't a day i didn't want to ride. any advice?

Try something new. I got into a rut a few years ago and I switched disciplines. I went from jumping to dressage, then from dressage to western games, then back to jumping cause i really started to miss it. Now i can do a little bit of all three.

Yeah maybe try somethiing new. or jsut take the break. Relaxing away from horses for a bit isn't gonna hurt. I love how 2 days ago I was so happy and I loved riding then yesterday I felt liek quitting again. ugh. Ben was a total brat. Wouldn't bend, wouldn't stop, wouldn't pick up his leads. sometimes i swear he doesn't eve remember he's a well broke 17 year old.

I ride because I am a naturally clumsy, uncoordinated, non-athletic person. I scuk at sports because I don't care and I don't want to try. It doesn't interest me. I am the one who is always picked last for PE, and the one that thrives in drama and debate and such. I fumble footballs, miss baskets, can't through very hard or run very fast...I trip over nothing, don't hit a baseball.....Nothing.

But when I'm in the saddle.....I'm a completely differant person. I'm graceful, focused, and I never miss a beat. I turn into an athlete because the horse is helping me every step of the way, and taught me where I needed to place my hands, my legs, my shoulders.....Completely self-taught. Everything I've learned I have learned by myself. Yeah, sure, I've had a trainer.....but after my first lesson and she screamed "HEEL'S DOWN" I learned to tune her out. She's the one you expect to haunt your nightmares for the rest of your life. I love her, but she's a drill sergeant. I mostly just go to use her facilities anymore.

I love to feel the power. The speed. There is nothing better than dropping the reins and just running. The muscles under your body and the sound of his breathing. But what's even better.....when at the end of that run, he throws his haunches under himself and slides to a hard stop and lands right back in his tracks to do it again.

Yeah. Cowgirls....We rein supreme :D

lol i have never let my horse run like that in my life i doubt i ever would... i am a chicken T_T but i can sorta run fast (as in me) but i'm homeschooled so i'm sorta always alone and it dosen't matter about PE but i never get to go out and see sadie my mom is always to busy to go to the ranch and she would never ever leave me there alone -_- she treats me like a freaking baby ugh so anoying
