LOST [Warning: spoilers for those who haven't finished the show yet!]
So....those of you who got sucked into the show. What'd you think of the show and the ending? Comments, thoughts?
I must say when I first watched Lost I was one of those people who had heard both the good and bad about it, and decided to watch it determined to walk away with the 'this show sucks, I can't believe you all watch it!' outcome. Well..needless to say, I got stuck on it.
I literally finished the finale 10 minutes ago, and I don't know quite what to think. Can I just say when the plane took off I got goosebumps! I wish they answered more questions about the mysterious island stuff(magnetism, the light, the time travel, etc), but overall I didn't notice the ending in advance. Good show, just wish they didn't confuse the heck out of us, not answer what we wanted to know, and just end it. Although I will say, how they ended it was quite creative.
And I now I have nothing to watch!
I am so glad someone made this thread! I was planning on it if I didn't see one pop up.
First I'll start by how I got into Lost. When Season 1 was on I was at a friend's house and the show was on. I kind of started watching halfway through Episode 13: "Hearts & Minds" which, if you don't remember, is the episode where Locke drugs Boone and then Boone has that hallucination where Shannon gets eaten by the Monster.. so keeping in mind that that scene was the first thing I had ever seen of Lost I was like "wow, this show is stupid." and I turned it off. A year and a bit later, when Season 2 was ending a new friend of mine who was obsessed with the show bothered me over and over until finally I gave in and agreed to watch Season 1 and 2 on DVD with him. Well, by episode 3 I was HOOKED. I watched the two seasons in like a week and have watched it ever since.
As for the ending. I won't say I was disappointed, however I wasn't exactly impressed either. I was expecting a huge explosive ending that would give me some closure to the show, but instead they just kind of gave us a foofy, trying to make us cry ending instead of bringing it together. Throughout the 6 seasons I kept my faith in the show by believing that the writers had a way to explain all of the crazy, weird things that had happened (I mean, they came up with them, they had to have thought through explanations... or so I thought) but instead they just kind of... ignored all those crazy things that needed an explanation. Without them being explained the show as a whole seems sort of... wishy-washy. I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself completely here... what I mean is that if I were writing a show, and I expected my audience to believe these crazy things.. I would definitely have a reason for the things happening! I think an audience deserves at least that.
It felt like a season finale, not a series finale. I mean, they had way more exciting season finales!
Oh I'm totally planning on getting the box set... it comes with 22 hours of never-before-seen extra footage!!
I've been reading a bunch of opinions and hypotheses about the finale and there are a lot of really neat ones to read. I found this website which has a bunch of "answers" (not approved by the producers/writers) and speculations as to what the finale meant - some of the stuff on there is really neat to read if you have the time.
It's inspired me to start really thinking through what I think it means. Maybe if I ever figure out what it means I'll type it out here. :-P
Yeah I've been reading around for others ideas and such on it too. It's really kinda cool to see what others might be thinking that you maybe didn't think of yourself.
Yeah I am sure that Best Buy or somewhere will eventually put the set on sale, and I'll probably wait for then too.
I am reading a lot of people saying that the entire show was a dream/Jack's imagination/etc and I definitely do not agree with that. I think the events on the island happened for sure, and I agree (with my boyfriend, who said this to me) that the flash sideways was a place Jack created (perhaps using Jacob's powers, as he was dying) so that everyone could meet up and "move on" into the afterlife. I just need to figure out all the stuff that's inbetween. Sigh!
Yeah, I don't agree with that either. It just doesn't fit with the storyline at all. But I'm pretty sure most people understand that the basis of the end of the show was the island was 'purgatory'(or something similar) and after they all 'die' on the island again, they go to 'heaven'(again, or something similar).
Here's some stuff I found about what was explained and what wasn't...not sure how much it helps really. There are still a lot of unanswered questions.
Did Lost Answer Questions?
(from the Lost and Gone Forever blog -- a list of "The Ten Big Questions" was compiled, and after the finale, the writer broke them down to see if they were answered to any degree of satisfaction)
But thanks for posting that!
I liked Hurley and Sawyer. :-)
I never really tried to figure out Ben's motives or anything like that, I just loved how he was portrayed as a terrible, evil person and then suddenly he was good.. but then he was bad! but then he was good! Haha, his character was just very conniving and interesting.
I liked how Hurley and Sawyer stayed true to their characters during the entire show. We saw a bit of Sawyer's soft side but it was more to explain his backstory than a change of character.
By then end of the show I really started to dislike Kate. To be honest, I was kind of hoping that she would die when she was shot... but... oh well. Haha.
