How to Make Horse Treats...
I got this recipe off the internet, and Jerry loved it. So I thought I would share it with you. :D
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 cup flour
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons of oil
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup molasses
Mix ingredients in a bolw in the order listed. Make small balls and place on cookie sheet sprayed with oil (like Pam). Bake at 350 for 15 minuets or until golden brown. They will be soft not crispy. Also, if you don't have carrots or your horse doesn't like carrots, you can use shredded apple or crushed peppermint.
Feel free to add your recipes to this post... I want to try them all!
Here's a really unique one. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds pretty good.
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup molasses
4 tablespoons brown sugar
any other treats that your horse likes
mix all ingredients and spread on tortilla. roll tortilla like a taco and feed to horse.
I would be interested in finding some treat recipes that don't contain molasses, ugars or grain... Would be hard though!
I wonder if you could soak speedi beet/copra and then bake it... lol...
I found this recipe online... no sugar or molasses in it, I have not tried it yet.
Oat 'n' Apple Chewies
Treat your horse or pony to these simple squares made of wholesome ingredients. Keep them fresh in the fridge. Remember not to feed too many of any treat too often.
Oooh... I'll have to try that one... It sounds good, actually. lol.
That sounds ok - One a week or so shouldn't be too bad with the grain.
Heres one which I made which is a slight variation from the norm.
-And the teeniest bit of water
Combine in a bowl and place in a freezer until set. Its quite easy to make but its really important you get the right amount of honey and water. If you don't want to let it set, don't use water, just use more honey. The honey helps it stick together. I use an old tupperware container so the shape is nice, but honestly I don't think the horses care :D
That one sounds pretty easy to make too... I'm gonna have to get the ingredients for these.
